Gujarat Votes Counted! (BJP Takes Strong Lead)
Gujarat’s local election vote counting kicked off on February 24, 2025, covering Junagadh Municipal Corporation, 66 municipalities, and 3 taluka panchayats across the state.
As of today, February 25, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is racing ahead with 778 seats locked in, showing its muscle in this first election since the 27% OBC reservation was introduced in 2023.
The Congress party is struggling to keep up, securing just 91 seats so far, while independent candidates have grabbed 53, with more results still pouring in from polling stations.
Counting began after a busy voting day on Sunday, where over 38 lakh Gujaratis cast ballots. Before votes were even tallied, BJP had already won 215 seats unopposed, setting the tone for their dominance.
Despite Congress claims of BJP pressure tactics, the ruling party’s lead looks unshaken. Political watchers say this could mirror their sweeping wins in the 2022 Gujarat assembly polls.
With the process ongoing, Gujarat’s local power map is taking shape. BJP’s early edge hints at another big victory, but final numbers will tell the full story by day’s end.
